Disaster Services

After an initial call from the fire department, disaster victim, family member or friend, Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) members respond to disasters in teams of two or more people on a 24-hour a day basis, seven days a week. DAT members assist disaster victims with emergency and long-term needs. The team evaluates the extent of damage to determine how much assistance the victims will need. Call the local chapter for more information if you are interested in joining.

Single-home fires are the most frequent local disasters. Every day, fires leave families homeless and devastated. Every year, trained American Red Cross disaster workers help numerous families recover from fires. When a fire occurs, Red Cross Disaster Action Teams are there providing victims with emergency food, clothing, shelter, medical care and supplies.

The American Red Cross has prepared information to encourage you take precautions to help keep you safe and speed your recovery after a disaster. You will also find ideas on what you can do to help make yourself and your home safer from future disasters.
